Honest and thought-provoking. Filled with great ideas. This book shows that the church is much bigger than one individual, and we isolate ministries and services to our own detriment. The church was meant to be a place where all are equipped to do the work of the ministry, where all have the ability to contribute, and where all are expected to engage. The difficult part is that pastors often expect this to happen naturally, that if they just keep working hard and handling the big stuff, people will one day get it and get involved. In being part of the Church for 30 years, I'm not convinced that it happens as often as we'd like. True involvement takes an intentionality and willingness to change that is difficult, potentially a different kind of difficult than we are used to.I enjoyed this book and would like to get copies for each staff member at my church. I feel there are conversations inside that need to be had.

I have been searching for a book like this for a long while. One that has both practical teaching on biblical truth concerning how we "do church" that is also mixed with passionate encouragement for the people of God to join into a deeper relationship with him. This book is an excellent combination of these two ideas. I was pushed further in my understanding of biblical doctrine concerning ecclesiology, and also into a deeper relationship with Jesus. This book is an excellent tool for anyone in leadership over the people of God and for those who long to understand more about God and His people. I am confident that this book will be such a useful tool in the ministry that the Lord has set before me, and I am also expecting to come back to it and the ideas presented in it over and over again.
This is an excellent book on the theology and practices of body life and is a much-needed wake-up call to the church which is often lulled into lethargy by front-led entertainment, rather than being energized by the Spirit of God as He makes Himself known through His body. This book would make an excellent guide for a Sunday school class or small group. While it is built on firm theological foundations, it also invites the reader to explore the practices of opening ourselves and our churches up to the workings of God's Spirit when we come together. You won't be disappointed with this much-needed, balanced treatment of a topic which is always timely.
